Yet another example of "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." Earlier this year a female tennis player let her opponent (who was losing in straight sets) win a match because she was too injured to compete in the second round. The girl didn't want to hurt herself further and she knew she couldn't play so she let the other player advance to the next round. Now a soccer team is under scrutiny for allowing the other team to score a goal in the name of fair play. A player was injured and trying to get the ball out of play so he could get assistance. The other team wasn't aware of his injury and took advantage of the situation in order to score a goal. Once they found out what happened, they let the injured player's team score a free goal to make up for it. They are under investigation for cheating.

What is this world coming to???

Sounds like another group of people with to much time on their hands and not enough work to do. They might read up on sportsmanship or fair play goodness what have we become.

    Fair play? In soccer?

Are you kidding? Soccer! The sport where grown men throw themselves on the ground and roll around in mock agony every time another player touches them? They'll continue this charade until the lone official on the field notices them and calls a penalty or they realize he isn't going to make a call. Then they make a miraculous recovery, jump to their feet and play on. The very good ones will limp a step or two in an attempt to prove they really aren't wussies. They are superbly conditioned and talented athletes. Why do they need WWF-like antics? Oh, wait! I know. It's to offset the unending boredom of watching a bunch of people run up and down a field for no apparent reason in a game where a 2-0 score is a blowout!

More to the point.........Hurray for the team that allowed the goal. A pox on a governing body which will make a big deal out of it because they can. Reminds me of government!

Where are the French in this???

They cheated their way to qualify for the World Cup (That's Soccer/Eoropean Football BTW).

A clear handball to cheat Ireland. Ireland demanded a rematch. Maybe a Irish /French War?????

IMHO, soccer has great athletes that act like pansies. They do fake injuries, constantly. I was in Paris the night that Zidane head butted the Italian player in the chest. It didn't look like it hurt that bad. Get up and save your dignity for gods sake. And, don't head butt his chest, he said your mother was a terrorist-whore, knock him out with your fist.

Sorry about the tangent. Soccer players are very athletic and have great endurance. But, they act like a bunch of pansies. Now rugby, that's a tough mans sport.
