The military really needs to just kill the Key West agreement on Army aviation. The Air Force really doesn't want to buy the equipment for fixed wing close air support on a continuing basis. How many times have they tried to kill the A10?agreed. The F35 is just... off. But in all honesty I love the A10's utilitarian appearance. All business, no finesse. A hammer designed to be the best hammer ever made.
Can you imagine what the Army would field as a fixed wing close support aircraft? I envision a cross between an AH-64 and a modernized, up powered, REALLY p***** off A10!
