4 year old starter went out on my truck... It happens. Bad it just happened after I just changed the batteries a week ago. Never a good time. I go to take it back and the girl said no problem and swapped it out. I asked if I get a new receipt and she said no. Their policy is one exchange only. I said Lifetime warrantee? She said limited lifetime. Only one exchange. I said when did that happen? She said years ago. I turned to walk away and said same on alternators and brakes?? She said yep, only one exchange. Anyone else hear of this change?? Or is she full of.

If it is true, Other part stores should be following.

Last year or the year before I did brakes on the car, pads have lifetime - according to the person at the counter.

Anymore most of the car parts I buy have been off amazon.

I bought brake pads about a year ago, bought the top of the line because brakes are not as strong as I would like. Was told limited lifetime meaning 1 replacement. I think that was autozone. Battery warranties have been downgraded also

I don't much care for their batteries. I have been running interstate for the past few years now.

My old M5 went through their batteries for some odd reason.

I buy at local part stores for the lifetime warrantee. If they are not going to honor that, I can get it a lot cheaper online. I am thinking if they skip the warrantee, that may push them out of business.

Someone told me that because people keep taking parts back when the wear out. I think most people do not even remember or turn vehicles much faster. I wonder what is the amount of warrantee returns they have?

That doesn't sound correct. I would check a different store? I has probably been a decade since I bought a part at AZ though. I switched to NAPA.

I have been burned so many times buying “auto parts store“ brand and other non-OEM parts. I don’t even bother anymore.

Now I only buy OEM parts unless there’s no other alternative i.e. discontinued or no new old stock. This is especially true for the electrical parts and things that have solenoids in them.

Lifetime warranties can have different meanings and have specific requirements. Often it refers to the typical expected lifetime of the product.

You used to be able to return a broken Craftsman hand tool regardless of age to Sears for an exchange without a receipt. Those days are long gone.
Yeah I'm pissed about the Craftsman tool exchange. There's a website where you're supposed to enter the part# off the tool in order to still exchange it. Well the 3 broken ratchets don't register on the website so I'm SOL. Granted said ratchets are north of 20 years old but damnit I still want my free replacement!
