One of the bits of chatter I’m hearing on the DHS side is that the reason for the system crash is the result of a hack. ADSB (flight transponder data) trackers showed a massive liftoff of military aircraft during the outage/grounding with numbers upwards of 50-something refuelers and a hundreds of fighters, recon birds and trainers (400ish?) in the air during the outage. The average number of those birds (to my understanding) is around 250 on any given day, with usually only a dozen or so refuelers up.
Not fully vetted, but it’s chatter from a couple different sources. It sounds like a cyber attack may be likely.
