For the same reasons people think we need more laws.

More rules/laws are GREAT. It helps maintain order and keeps the riffraff under control.

UNTIL the rules get weaponized against them. Like speed cameras. They're great! Until you get your citation in the mail.
I'm not judging, but I would never live in one myself. What I do on and to my property is my business. If I want to paint my house a different color, I will not pay someone money to either tell me no or tell me what colors I can paint it. Even the Amish in this area have gotten away from stuff like that.

Same. My only beef with them is them complaining about what they signed up for.

Sure my old half of the hood without the HOA is annoying with cars in the street, etc. But nobody is telling me I have to spend $400 for the EXACT mailbox and post when some drunk runs mine over, or that my carriage light is daylight instead of warm white, etc.

I feel very fortunate. My neighbors and me all communicate very well, They have never had a problem with anything I wanted to do, and I never had a problem with them, other than the meth head ex stripper across the street wanting to party with us. lol especially after my ol lady saw her chasing her cat only wearing a robe and not trying to stay covered.

Not all choices are obtainable though. Sometimes we have to suffer through what we do not like because we literally don't have other options.

Most starter homes only exist within an HOA. So there isn't really a choice there.
Most, maybe I'm not experienced in the field but at least in indiana I don't most starter homes have hoa's, heck even mid-upper class homes don't have hoa's here thats more big city or democratic states things, in my opinion.

I don't understand why someone would want to live in an HOA, but it’s a free country so to each his own.
Because of the bad humans can and will do. The constitution gave the people the right to create government while also removing that government when it became oppressive. The laws also give property owners the right to create a self governing system of covenants, restrictions, and an HOA to maintain them while also requiring mechanisms to change or abolish them.

I find it interesting that many of the most vocal opponents of HOA’s live in the country on land. Living on .17 acres with 15 feet between houses is a different would.

If it was me that received this letter, I would have to respond by asking them if getting bent was against their community standards, and if it was to "stay off my lawn!" lol
This is not an HOA issue in any way. Let’s look at the letter that was sent, if it was real. (I used pic to text so may not be precise.)

Subject: Noise Complaint Regarding Generator Usage During Recent Power Outage

    Dear Non-HOA Homeowner,

We are writing in response to several complaints received from HOA members regarding the recent power outage that affected the entire town. While we understand the challenges of a blackout, your actions during this time have raised concerns among the community.

During the outage, you ublized a gas-powered backup generator to restore power to your home.

While backup generators are not prohibited, the following issues were raised.

    1. Excessive Noise: Multiple HOA members reported that your generator was loud and disruptive, causing undue disturbance throughout the neighborhood. Such noise during an already stressful situation aggravated the discomfort for those without power.

    2. Perceived Unfairness: Several HOA members were frustrated by the fact that while the rest of the community was without power, you were seen watching the game on your tv.

    • Consider a Quleter Alternative

    Be mindful of neighbors.

We hope this letter serves as a reminder to maintain community hammony, even during challenging situations. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us
    .

To me this letter was informing the property owner of the complaints received by the HOA from members while and asking for consideration while acknowledging they had no legal right to stop the use. It certainly does not seem overreach to send a third party a letter noting the complaints received. INGO told me that was an appropriate way to resolve issues between neighbors.

I own several generators and get both sides. I get it that neighbors likely are hot in a power outage, maybe trying to get a baby to sleep, and they have their windows open desperately trying to get a breeze while the neighbor has a 90db generator running all night with an additional 70db from the AC unit, while they have every right, can be seen watching TV while all the neighbors suffering.

Philosophically speaking, being upset about being a "have not" is a you problem. No amount of keeping up with the jones' will give people like that satisfaction since they can't or won't derive happiness internally.

The only legitimate reason you should look at someone else's plate is to make sure they have enough. Just my :twocents:. Opinions and anuses etc etc.

No. She looks 30 from a distance but up close you can tell she is 65 plus with died black hair. At first I just thought he was a dirty old man for keeping a young girl around till I saw her up close and realized they were about the same age.
It's a hard life on the pole, even harder when your delegated to day shift.

100%! This is right! Most folks probably assumed the complaints were from entitled a-holes, what if neighbors complaining were in need of power for c-pac machines or other medical devices and the generator user was the one not looking “at someone else's plate is to make sure they have enough”?
