Oh yeah. Noticed quite a bit. There are several of them I won't deal with. Just on a short list without names:
Member since 2009 has 59 regular posts and 641 in classifieds
Member since 2008 has 58 regular posts and 396 in classifieds
Member since 2008 has 502 regular posts (respectable) and 3524 in the classifieds
Countless members that don't contribute anyplace outside of the classifieds.
Members who aren't vendors and have a couple dozen different guns for sale ALL THE TIME.
To each their own. I've got no problem with someone new joining the forums for the classifieds, as long as they follow the rules. Post relevant comments that have at least a little thought to them or pay the site supporter fee. I have no idea why you seem so butthurt over what I said that you quoted. No user names were mentioned and you don't even remotely fit the description. When someone looks at your profile and the post areas section they can see you post all over the forum and have discussions. You are a contributing member to the forum with what you post. I've got no problem with that. Even members that stir the pot in various sections are contributing members. I (or any member) may not agree with what they say but that sparks conversation and different opinions. Someone who posts 1,2,3 etc for their first three posts is not contributing and is making no effort.
If you have issue with the fact I have a list of people that I do not want to have transactions with then there is nothing I can or will do about that. Yes I use the ignore list. I also have a text file with those names and the reason why they are on that list. It's a good feature that when used properly can be a great help. There are members on here that have admitted to having their LTCH pulled, of that they have a felony background, or have been arrested for breaking and entering, or who have been caught in a stolen valor lie, etc. Those people go on my ignore list, not because I don't care to read what they say but because if I ever post up a WTS/WTT ad and they respond then I know to look at my file and see why they are on it. Same goes for if they have something to sell that I may be interested in. I also have those with members that you quoted me above on the list as well. Some of them MAY be dealing without a license, I don't know for sure and won't make any accusations or give out user names. If they are then I want no part of it and am given a heads up when I see something I may want.
not butthurt...just i dont like how everyone bashes the new people for wanting access to the classifieds...to me that is one of the single best things on here...you can say whatever you want about me so not really concerned if you were talking about me...i got thick skin....i have talked to many people on the site and most of them are great...and i support site users--look at the classifieds at my positive feedback...thats just a fraction of what i have done on here...a lot of it is not documented...i am indifferent about a lot of the forum posts on here but there is a LOT of misinformation and internet experts on here...i have brought many members here and had to coach them on what to do because a lot of people just don't have a lot to say or dont know what to say....i dont like all the bashing of new members and the thinking (of a minority) that post count actually means something like seniority or experience....i can show a bunch of posts where you ask a question and people just act like they have knowledge and they dont....there are many people that are clearly experts and have a lot of experience. after a while, you just learn to trust them while weeding out the noise...i was responding to your posts not attacking you and i dont have issues (but my girlfriend does). Hey, if you have an ignore list then good...i usually ask to see a license to carry handgun but i dont do any firearm stuff since i am in florida for a couple of years...all i can guarantee with any ftf transaction is that I am legal and the other person needs to provide me no reasonable suspicion that they are...and i have to say post count doesnt cut it for those purposes...thats all

I fully agree with you when you say post count doesn't matter. Time on site doesn't matter either. What matters is if the person giving advice, answering questions, making recommendations, etc knows what they are talking about. With enough time, knowledge and experience we (the collective and the individual member) can get to know who is worth listening to and who isn't. I would have no problem taking the advice of CM, Allen or several others if I asked a question about a 1911. I would NOT take the advice from the guy who thinks a dozen 22s to the ear is a good self defense strategy. Not everyone who joins this site is here for noble purposes. With the 50 post rule it at least gives those who are a chance to prove themselves. It also goes somewhat to character. The rules are clear, they are listed in several places. If someone comes in and makes an honest effort to post relevant content, ask serious questions (and follow up on then when we answer instead of ignoring the thread they started), give honest answers & opinions then that person instantly has earned a higher amount of respect than the one who joins and violates the rules right from the word go.
Having been a member of several forums for many years I can honestly say this is one of the good ones. Most of the reason is because of the people involved, both behind the scenes and the members. The rules play a great deal in that as well. There is no national forum where you will get the kind of good advice and level of participation. Look at the pooch screw that is ARFCOM. There is some good information there, but the day to day routine sucks. Huge attitudes and egos rule that place. To find the good stuff there stay in the stickys or the HAM section.
Without the rules here this forum would be a much different place. I don't want to see that. I don't think many others do either. Especially for something as simple as a 50 post rule.
What about posters who never contribute to firearm threads, but have 10,000 posts in general political discussion?
That rather defeats the purpose of a firearm forum...
That is where they can pay to become a site supporter and skip the 50 post rule. Seems pretty straight forward to me.i see where you are coming from...arfcom is too hard to navigate so i dont spend any time there....from the newbies prospective when they come here, its hard to know what a "quality post' is ...it is, by its very nature, very subjective. just think of yourself when you started a job...did you ever say "I agree with you" ..probably -maybe not...but if you did, did you get crucified by long term workers...and then have everything you talked about stripped away...heck, i am not ashamed to say that i responded to an old post and got crucified because i didnt look at the date...i didnt go crying about it but my error was unintentional and not done with intent to ruin someone's day...imagine being a 58 year old dude who doesnt use computers and having to come up with 50 posts because you want to sell a shotgun you bought for too much at an auction (and you need to sell it fast before your wife finds out you have more than one gun in the safe...true scenario LOL)....that guy is never gonna get 50 quality posts...at the end of the day....i am indifferent to most of it...the subjective part of the 50 post rule is what is a little confusing to those who are new to forums....i like the rules but there are rules that i dont like but hey--i dont own the forum...i will leave it at that.
Guess what this 50 post rule still stinks.
Pony up the 25 bucks
No worries. The rule stands and for good reason.
I did the 50 as does most everyone. Took me way to long to become a site supporter.
Due recent changes in my status I see this from a whole new perspective. The rule does add to the depth of the forum.
I could care less if you think it stinks because it doesn't.
I'm quite fond of the rule...if anything the required post count is too low
