JMHO, I NEVER use reloads, for self defense ..... Mas Ayoob, says it, and I BELIEVE it .....

Right now, I have Fed. Hydra Shok ..... yeah, I know it's old, but so am I .....

    DITTO.

I'm in the process of switching from HydraShok to Hornady or Federal HST.

Winchester Ranger T, 230gr. Occasionally you can find them. I usually find them on Wikiarms or some other ammo tracker.

I used to get them from SG ammo, before Winchester stopped supplying him. Now, I used to find them on Gunbroker, for about double what I used to pay him per round (So I don't shoot them much). Looking at wiki arms shows some much better deals than I was finding, from sites that will actually sell them to an average joe like me. Thanks for the pointer!

Remington Standard Pressure 230 grain Golden Sabers have fed well and have been very accurate in all of the 1911s I have tried it in. Reliability and accuracy are both must haves.

In a short barrel, light gun such as an XDs the critical defense is probably a good choice. I would just buy more of those. Otherwise So long as the gun runs reliably just pick an expanding Bullet from Winchester, Speer, Remington or Federal and call it a day.

3 loads for me, depending which feeds and shoots best for you.

    1.) Corbon 185gr DPX +P
    2.) Federal HST 230gr
    3.) Speer Gold-dot 200gr

One of those will feed and function properly in about anything, all of them perform exceptionally well. I currently run the corbon when I carry a 1911. I rarely carry a 45 anymore these days. (Would explain why but this isn't a caliber debate)

I currently have all 3 of those offerings in the ammo locker.
I have found the Speers to be troublesome in some 1911's.
I like the speers but they need to be function tested before EDC with them.

I know the flying ashtray is troublesome in non-barrel feed ramp 1911s. That's why I listed 3, one of them will undoubtedly work in anything. The Corbon probably has the best chance of reliable function due to the bullet shape.

I only use the flying ashtray in my 45gap glock 37.
