Which 1911 for around $1000?
You can never go wrong with a Kimber. I have the Pro Carry II and even though its a low end Kimber, the shooting experience is awesome. My dad and uncle have higher end Kimbers that are the smoothest .45 pistols I've ever shot. In all three guns I've never seen a FTF or any other issues. -

The future Mrs's new gun and first.
I bought my wife a Walther P22 and had it painted pink. (doesn't look as nice as this) but I had tons of FTF's also. I switched to CCI mini mags and my issues went away. Gun functions flawlessly. The 38 gr is what works best in this gun...worth a shot to try if you can find them. -
