There are some great calibers out there that are non magnums for shooting out to 1000yds and beyond. 6xc, 6.5x284, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Lapua, 243 AI, ext.. For 308s try using Lapua Palma brass and 155gr pills. They can maintain super sonic to 1000yds.

AMMO is not HAZMAT!!
If live ammunition is shipped ground via FedEx, UPS, ext.. it is not hazmat. If you ship it air then it becomes hazmat. Primed brass is not hazmat either. To ship ammo you need a Blue ORMD sticker on your box. NEVER ship ammo USPS = Felony
I am a licensed ammunition mfg...
Why are you trying to copy a military cartridge instead of trying to produce the most accurate round possible for your rifle? You are a reloader now not a shelf buyer. Treat your rifle with some love and feed it some well tuned ammo.
What do you consider long range. We sell alot of load development boxes. If you are shooting at ranges less than 1300 yards or less use the 250gr Berger Hybrids. If going longer than jump up to the 300gr bullets. Keep your eye on Retumbo and H1000. Also for precision us a Wilson chamber seater...
Try buying from the smaller ammo MFGs we are still getting a goood supply of components in general still. But it still depends on what you are looking for.
I do use my turret press at times as an arbor press for some of my shorter Wilson chamber seater dies. Works great. I also have a regular arbor press as well. Both work though.
I am an ammo MFG and I hate seeing dealers base pricing on fear driven possibilities. The Pres. is not close enough to signing anything for dealers to start driving the prices up on ammo as the moment. My prices to dealers have not changed and nor has my suppliers prices. The flow of components...
Has anyone tried Speer's 300gr HP? It is a UHP same as the Gold Dots making it a bonded bullet but it is closer to a Soft point with a demple. Cheaper than the others also. Berry has a 300gr plated bullet as well.
I just got a notice from one of my suppliers that Winchester will be producing 338 Lapua brass starting sometime 2013. I hope they help bring down the price of the brass.
You can buy an 8lb keg of powder from Powder Valley Inc. for $170 delivered to your door. That is $30 less than the store prices. Do not fall for the "shipping is bad" mentality. I am pro about buying locally but I do not support those that take advantage either.
My 2 cents
In 2008 around the elections we as consumers of all things that go boom, we bought ammo and components as well as some firearms at just plain stupid prices and those same store that you were buyng from before and the manufactures whose products we were buying seen that we are...
Reloading is much cheaper depending on the caliber. 9mm and 223 still suck as for the use of plain o'l plinking. But then if it wasn't cheaper the reload then those of us that are loading it comercially would be doing something else. By all means reload for the fun and enjoyment. Do not let...
Ammunition that is loaded on a camdex wether it be new or used brass is loaded the same. One is truly no better than the other. I am a comercial loader as well and for every bad piece of used brass you find I guarntee I can show you an equal amount of new brass that is bad as well. Winchester...
