Thanks. I will give it a shot. The most recent liveCD I have is 6.10. Should I get on another computer and get a more recent release, or will it not matter?
I should add that I am using the trouble computer right now. It booted no problem after a weekend away
EDIT: that was short-lived. I am posting from my phone now.
Thanks, I tried running memtest from bash on friday, but the computer crashed and shut off well before it was done. Should I run from bash or from the liveCD?
I don't keep anything important on here. Too easy for laptops to disappear. I was thinking the HDD might be on it's last legs too, but I hope not. I did manage to get it to run e2fsck and it checked out.
My computer has started completely freezing. After i cut power and reboot, I sometimes get an error message stating:
Other times, I can select my kernel at bash, but before the login splash, I get a message stating
I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
Any ideas or help?

I'm thinking of heading over to see if I can steal either a Sig p226 or p228. Buy it from them, then send the LEO rebate form in to Sig and get another $100 back. Probably not until the middle of October, though.
The summons is from Grant, right? Take the couple of hours off work and go to court on the day the summons says. Take everything you have from the original paternity action. You really shouldn't need a lawyer for this, having that stuff should clear you up. If it doesn't, then you should think...
You had genetic testing done, but was there ever a paternity action? Did you ever get a court to say that you are not the father? If she named you, you are the father until a court says you aren't. Go appear in court. Take the genetics paper work with you. Offer to present it to the court. If...
