look up surplus stores, almost any army surplus store will have some. the one near my home has a mountain of the ammo cans in various sizes from 30 cal up through the big 40mm cans stacked along the entire back wall of the store

yes para ordinance are quite reliable.
there are a few on gunbroker for between $750 and $1025 right now. here is a link to one in 3" .45ACP that comes with a lot of mags and it looks pretty good too

para ordinance "Slim Hawg" is the option that jumps to the top of my mind, if you are willing to reconsider the 1911. most of the modern polymer frame guns will have a trigger safety similar to the glock or a grip safety. I cant think of any with a thumb switch safety
closest I could find with my google-fu is IC 35-47-4 which deals more with knowingly giving a firearm to a person who is already intoxicated or it known to get intoxicated....nothing about getting intoxicated while in posession of a firearm.
two things
1) why do they even know you have a firearm in the first place? if you hadn't told them they would have never known it was in your car.
2) in Indiana they don't have to look for a reason to fire you, this is an "at will" state so they can fire you for any reason they see fit or...
