At the risk of a thread jack, I’ll disagree on the 92fs. For the role it needed to play, it wasn’t great. I’ve got no love for it, and I’m thrilled to have it replaced with the 320.The US made the right choices before they adopted the sig P320.
The ar15 and the 92fs are probably the best evolved of any firearms in military service in the world.
The 92fs was VERY heavy compared to modern striker fired pistols, and every ounce matters. It was also quite complicated being SA/DA, with a manual safety/decocker. Not too complicated if you’re a gun guy that likes to shoot, but the M9 qual range was always a mess, with lots of shooters that struggled with it. Keep in mind that medics, fat old transport officers, etc have to qualify with the thing, and 99.9% of their job is everything but shooting.
Maybe the M17/18 is not the perfect solution, but IMHO it’s a big improvement.
