This is literally what a BM59 is. Magazine fed using m14/m1a mags and .308. There's even tanker models with shorter barrels and paratrooper models with a collapsible/folding stock.
So, here's the scenario.
You have 2k to get a new general purpose rifle. General purpose meaning, Home Defense, Truck/vehicle rifle, trail rifle, etc.
What do you choose?
Hard mode: no AR's or AK's.
I've been kinda torn between the Steyr AUG, PTR91 SC, CZ Bren 805 S1, and the Beretta ARX100. All have pros and cons that differentiate them from each other.
What say you INGO, What would you get for 2k?
a .308, magazine fed, m1 garand? Seems to be a lot of work to just make a garand into an M14 when you can just buy an M14.
NOW if it were in .30-06 then I might be interested

Dangit. I should have kept reading!
I went with the PTR91 with Leupold 3-9,
Another vote for the Tavor / X95 here... Takes AR mags and stone reliable. And they don't **** where they eat like ar-15s do.
How well does your PTR shoot? My next rifle will be an M1A scout, but always liked the looks of PTR's as well.
