I've never understood this. Direct dl costs the same as a hard copy of the game. There is no way that a network infrastructure costs as much to maintain as the cost of packaging, media and shipping. Yet the cost of both is the same. I'll stick with pc. Steam sales for older games are ridiculously cheap. Just last week Rome Total War was $1. I have the patience to wait.Anonymous Xbox engineer explains DRM and Microsoft's Xbox One intentions - Neowin
Take it for what it's worth. I'm not sure if I'll get either of them.
If they bring the price point down to $40 for new games (downloads), it would be hard for PS4 to compete with that and remain financially competitive if they stay with the disc. From the get go, XBOX ONE is at a disadvantage. In two years, who knows. I would imagine PS4 will adopt a similar policy based on the success (or failure) of what M$ is doing.
Newer used games sell for 40+ at gamestop, so the only part of the market they may miss is the $10 three year old games. I'm sure their prices would drop accordingly for these games since it will be download based and no new costs are really being incurred.
Yes it sucks for people who trade games, but if the costs are reduced overall, I'm sure people will come out close to even. I haven't seen anyone mention the potential price reduction on games since no real raw materials will be used. Not using packaging and discs should save a ton of labor and material expenses for the developers. Unless they become greedy and continue to charge the same amount.

Looks like M$ is walking back some of their more egregious stupidity on the Xbox One. Time will tell if this sticks of if they're stuck on stupid.
