ok well i got my fiddleback machete late last week but i am not off on weekends right now so the review and woods walk had to wait until today. i took out some monsters today along w/ the 12 incher. so today the hike involved the busse b-11, esee junglas, a cold steel kukri, and the fiddle back 12 inch machete.
My brother, our friend juice, me and my little one mad dog set out into the woods. let me start out with the snow was at that horrible point where its almost solid but not enough to support you so you end up falling through every step, which is super annoying and tons of extra work. anywho. led by my fearless little one we set off around noon. no sheath made for the machete yet so the machete was just in hand on the walk into the woods. let me say this thing slices through green stuff (even frozen) up to 1 inch in diameter like freaking laser. its amazing. if you have 4 wheeler trails that you clean up every spring this is a must have for sure, or a hunting lease and you need to clear trails same deal a must have.
so we got out to where we thought was a good spot and we started to set up camp. getting the fire pit ready, clearing the area, making the firewood, playing w/ the little one, all the good stuff. well the fiddleback 12 incher was chopping hard dead wood very well, (surprisingly so for such thing stock) it batoned well for a thin long blade also. it made good fuzz sticks though that was a bit more work than w/ a smaller blade. we were about to get the fire started and as i looked over i see our friend juice smacking the knife with his hand cause his baton log broke. as i started to say don't do that i heard the ohhhh **** and saw the blood. the busse basic 11 had bit him and bit him bad. about a inch long and what appeared to be to the bone and possibly through the tendon. i washed it out and patched him up with the first aid kit. they gave him 3 stitches just to keep it closed and said he has to see a hand specialist tomorrow for the final patch work.
so not a ton of pictures but enough and i beat the hell out of the fiddleback machete so i feel i can give it a pretty decent review. also something i left out of the above that is very well known about andy. his handles are amazing. they feel so good in the hand even when chopping on harder woods for prolonged periods.
if you don't own one get out and buy one as its about a good of woods tool as you can get. mix it with a sak farmer and i think you would have a great woods bumming/camping set up. on to the pics
all other knives out today are awesome. the cheapest being the kukri which out chopped all the others as to be expected. all great blades and we had a ton of fun minus the mishap. my daughter was super helpful and wanted to make sure juice was all bandaged up. she even washed it out for him and held his arm on the walk back. very cool of her. either way i will try to get some more pics and hopefully get out tomorrow again with the blades but who knows.
more to come in the next post
