to me, upgrading components is a little more like upgrading rifle parts. perhaps if some guitar players wound their own strings or something. but yes, there is some similarity.While it does not use the same equipment, some electric guitar players are gear heads. Continually changing pickups, amplifiers, strings, speakers, effects pedals and even vacuum tubes looking for that tone that is magic to their ears.
Sort of reminds me of target shooters, modifying their firearms, bullets, powder, primers, OAL etc, looking for that magic load that cuts the magic one hole group in the target.
