What are your thoughts on best caliber out of a short barrel?

I have reviewed a large number of videos on the topic and it surprisingly seems to be a toss up. I looked at the results of the 9mm and the .45 ACP out of a 3.3 inch bbl. They are amazingly similar. I am looking for your guys thoughts in the subject, not a caliber war.
