So I'm sitting here thinking, you know, I've got a lot of trash to carry around with me if SHTF. I decided to go through my stuff and cull out all but ten items I feel are essential to survival.

There are 9 items on my list. I actually came up with eight items that I could not live without. With these items, I can readily get everything else I need. They are listed below.

    1. Folding shovel.
    2. SOG Tomahawk (w/40ft paracord wrap).
    3. Kershaw Scout II.
    4. BIC Lighter.
    5. S&W M&P .357 Sig.
    6. Swiss Army Lite card. Has red light, small blade, screwdrivers, sissors, tweasers.
    7. John Wayne.
    8. One rifle from the second picture. Probably my DPMS LR-308 (full auto) w/night vision scope and a couple sets of extra batteries.
    9. Remington 870. This is the first thing I would dump if I needed to get light.
    10. LBE to carry this stuff.

With the above tools, I can make fire, build shelter, collect food, open anything made, protect myself.

Not going to take anything. My fortress is ringed by Claymores, with other devices strewn around to make sure no one gets near. In the event of total failure of all my external devices, I have one very nice TND in the basement.

Looks good, but I am bringing a saw to replace the hawk. During our last FTX, it was evident how loud the hawk was to chop wood.

    I prefer more low pro.

    1. Good Bush Knife with fire steel lanyard
    2. water bottle with filter in it (yeah i can make one, but its good for speed)
    3. Tomahawk (i dont wrap mine with 550 cord because when i throw it i like it to just slide out of my hand)
    4. 100' 550 cord with inner strands
    5. tritium compass
    6. rifle
    7. Otis multi-caliber weapon cleaning kit.
    8. mosquito net
    9. milsurp poncho
    10. duct tape rolled flat. 6'

notice I have no pack listed. thats because i can make a pack with the items listed above, or from items i find along the way. Technicaly, I dont even need all of the above. If I whittled it down to 4 items it would be the: Knife w/ fire steel lanyard, 550 cord, tomahawk, duct tape. You could live indeffinately with this stuff. the most important thing is the knife. if i had to only take one thing it would be the knife.

    I'm not taking anything.

I'm not going anywhere but home.

My house/property are on a dead end road, only 1 way in/out. We are 6 miles outside of town. Woods, small creeks and scattered homes to the east and the south. Farm fields to the west, over a good size creek. Small farms and a few homes to the north up the entrance road. We have game, water, fuel, power, food and ammo. New fences are going up this year.

Why would we leave that? People may leave the cities, but they will try to come to where I live.

better get some concertina wire to encircle your property. it will be hard to stop a few hundred or a thousand people who want in. they will eventualy find you and by that time they might be well organized and armed. even the masses wont care if your shooting back and dropping them left and right, they will keep coming because they no longer have anything to lose that they arent gonna lose if they dont try. You might already have plans in place (i hope) to combat this at first, but theres no way you will win a long seige if they realy want in. Its great that some people are fortunate (some by design) to have a place to stay (bug in), but you also need to be prepared to bug out. If lightning strikes your house and starts a fire in the middle of the night then you need to be ready to go and still be sustainable.

im not attacking you or trying t say your not prepared. Im just throwing this out there for everyone. because youd be suprised at the number of people who think they are prepared beause they have land, but are actualy less prepared than those who dont have any land.
