While President Obama is tanking in popularity, with Rasmussen showing him at his lowest approval ranking ever, that does not mean that the GOP is going to enjoy a corresponding surge in popularity.

Many of us are skeptical of Michael Steele, the Maryland Liberal who is the chairman of the party. Many of us are skeptical of the RINO Republicans like veteran Senator Dick Lugar who votes too often with Democrats on key/core issues. Rasmussen has an interesting study it released:

Republican Voters Say GOP Reps in Congress Still Out of Touch - Rasmussen Reports™

Seventy-four percent (74%) of Republican voters say their party’s representatives in Congress have lost touch with GOP voters nationwide over the past several years. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 18% of GOP voters believe their elected officials have done a good job representing the base.

Most Republican voters (55%) say that the average Republican in Congress is more liberal than the average Republican voter. Twenty-four percent (24%) say the average Republican in Congress holds views about the same as the average Republican voter while just 17% think the Congressional Republicans are more conservative than GOP voters.

Republican voters overwhelmingly believe it is more important for the party to stand for what it believes in rather than trying to work with President Barack Obama. Eighty-four percent (84%) of Republicans hold that view while just 14% favor more co-operation with the President.

As for voters not affiliated with either major party, 58% say the GOP should stand for what it believes in while 33% would like to see more cooperation with the President. Seventy-one percent (71%) of unaffiliated voters believe the Republicans in Congress have lost touch with their base and a plurality of unaffiliateds (41%) believe that the average Republican in Congress is more liberal than the average Republican voters.

I agree with melensdad. As much as people are scared and sick of the democrats (myself included), we are not going to get these socialists out of office until we have somebody to vote 'for'...we are not going to get enough people to show up on election day just to vote 'against'.

After they got whacked in the last election you would have thought there would have been a thorough house cleaning of big spending liberals in the party. But instead they elected Steele who is way too liberal for the party. We all know why the party officials elected him. The Dems had their black guy so we needed one too. This would have been fine, except ideas are important too. So he immediately begins ticking off the party rank and file by attacking Limbaugh and several other missteps. With all that is going on with BHO and the Dems in Congress, the Republicans would be flying high right now if they had their crap together. I am afraid that even if they do get the Congress back in 2010, they will just pee away their opportunity by trading pork with BHO to pass more of these programs.

Washington is the problem. As a city it is a aberration, living there changes people's thinking and the longer they stay there the more out of touch with reality they get. Back when the country was formed everybody had to get together in one place to hash laws out. That is not the case today. Maybe we should close both houses of congress and turn them into museums. Make the congressional critters stay in thier districts and talk to each other over the internet or phone. Sure would make the lobbiest's job harder.

This is a pretty good idea! To bad it will never happen.

It took a Rasmussen poll to figure out that Socialist Party B was out of touch? H**l, they've been out of touch forever. They played their supporters in the 90's like a bad fiddle and expect that people will do it again. Anyone who knowingly votes for them gets what they deserve.

Why doesn't the GOP make Rush Limbaugh their party chairman? He apparently knows more about the average republicans beliefs and values than their leaders now? I suppose his convictions for tax evasion and prescription drug abuse might be a little embarrasing but as long as his head is in the right place now, the average republican can still get behind his plattform. After all, they never let Bush or Cheney's illegal transgressions stop them!
