You guys really do know that the bullet from a 7.62 X 54R couldn't travel 2000 meters unless you dropped it out of a plane at that elevation, right?

NRA firearms fact book- "a 9mm, 120 grain bullet, fired out of an average sized handgun at 45 degrees elevation will travel about 2300 meters before falling"
I think 7.62x54, fired from a Mosin will go farther that that.

In all reality, most rifles of that era were made with sights set for crazy long distances, and most miltary rifles were not that precise.

These crazy ranges did have a use. When these things were made up, they would volley fire the rifles at these insane ranges. One rifle firing at that range couldn't be counted on to hit anything. But 50 or 100 firing at the same time firing at a large formation or ememy troops did have a hope of hitting something.

Remember they hadn't figure out yet when they made these bolt actions the machine gun would make these formations obsolete.

Lol yeah totally misinforming. A 7.62 out of a 54r will travel 2000+ meters with ease... not with precision,
But it would have no trouble reaching 2000m and past that.
