200 lb black bear in Wisconsin

Father & 12 yo son bear hunt.

Son shoots from tree stand, wounds bear.

They wait awhile, go look for bear, send dog ahead.

Dog yelps and runs back past them.

Father steps out of thicket and bear is 6 feet away, attacks.

Father fires 8 shots from pistol, all misses. Bear knocks him down and starts tearing him up.

    Son kills bear with rifle.

This brings back up shot placement.
    Shot placement wins the battle.

I doubt i ever go in grizzly country but am in need of a 1911 10mm LOL

Looking at maybe a Springfield Ronin

I am similarly watching for a Gen 5 G20 MOS. I have missed a few listed in the classy's, not having appropriate cashflow at those times. Bidenomics has been a problem on gun purchases... :xmad:

If this ever comes to be for me, I figure to switch my home/local EDC to the 10mm during gun season, in case a venison oportunity presents itself. Be good to break the gun system and myself in to any differences to the normal G19 EDC also. Holster, mags, dry fire, etc. getting a dab of wringing out while EDC.

There is a difference between killing... and stopping.
    “Killing Power vs Stopping Power”

On the Safari side, there is the concept of a stopping rifle.. usually held by the guide. Something big enough that it will immediately end a charging threat.

For north american Brown bear, its probably 45-70 in a lever gun. Yeah a lot of things will kill it.. but good 45-70 out of a lever gun will do the job nicely to get said bear to stop doing whatever it was doing.

Just my personal experience, but I have hunted black bear in Northern Ontario, Canada 6 times. I killed 4, brother killed one, brother-in-law killed 2. All seven bears were killed with one shot. However, we all used high power rifles ( 30.06, 444 marlin, 270 Winchester, and 375 H&H ). No bows or handguns. Had couple friends that wanted to hunt with bow and arrows and I said brush was far to thick and heavy. Arrow is to easily deflected. I actually had one more that I would have gotten but a little 2 inch sapling defected my bullet. Quit a few years ago, but I believe just about every one was shot in chest area. I killed 2 Russian wild boar on Tennessee hunts and brother killed one. I think, not sure, that at least one of them and maybe 2 needed a second shot. Again rifles not handgun or archery. They were moving pretty fast, so were not standing targets. Seen a lot of deer take multiple shots but they were always bad hits.
