PSA. Saying someone can't do a specific job because of his or her race is the literal definition of "racism."
Ben Sasse:
In regards to Trump's comments about Judge Curiel
In fairness, that's not really what Trump said. He said the judge is doing a bad job because of his race, not that he can't do the job at all.
Trump insisted that his comments about the judge came in defense against relentless questions from reporters and others about lawsuits against Trump University. Trump said U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel can't be impartial in the suits because his parents were born in Mexico and Trump wants to build a wall along the border.
It has more to do with his connections to HRC and a group that helps illegal immigrants stay in this country. He should recuse himself.
Interesting. Probably worth a whole different thread, but I'm really curious how something like that would work.and is why I don't think the judiciary should be a member of any political party.
Neither of those things are the subject of the litigation, and would not be.

Maybe a caste system or something.

And you take that to mean that she's implying heritage would take precedence or rule of law, injecting bias into cases where one's origin has no significant bearing.... ie Trump University?

That's one side of the issue. If you strictly limit yourself to the subject under consideration, how do you address concerns about a judge with a high probability of having a burr up his ass against one party for other reasons? Just because it isn't the issue under consideration, that still leaves open the possibility of judgment being rendered based on other considerations.

Absolutely not. Judges never let bias affect their decisions. They are certainly all beyond reproach.

Would you want to go to court for any reason with a judge who is, say, a moderator on Stormfront? You really think you would get a fair shake even though it was about an unrelated issue?
