So there I was in the M5 this morning on 465 around Hanna Ave on the SE side and I see red and blues. V1 never went off.:xmad:

The bad news: My V1 appears to be out of date according to the website but I can upgrade for a fee which would get me a brand new unit after I send in my current one.:)

The good news: I didn't get pulled over, was only going 55 mph as everyone had moved over to the right as the cops were in the left lane waiting.:rockwoot:

Not so sure the upgrade is worth it just yet as it still seems to be pretty good at doing its job. Maybe the upgrade will be my birthday gift to myself.

They probably never turned on their radar.

You gotta love people's reflex of hitting their brakes when they see a cruiser.

Cops sit around with the radar in idle all the time. Sometimes just to intimidate, sometimes they are just doing paperwork. I wasn't aware much had changed in speed enforcement technology over the last few years. My escort 8500 seem to work fine everywhere I go.

In before the "don't want a ticket, don't speed" bs folks. I don't run a radar unit, and the only two tickets that I've gotten in the last 10 years were when I WASN'T SPEEDING.

I rarely exceed the speed limit by more than 5 over and I am almost always doing less than the traffic around me and I still got tickets for 10 over (both times) when I know for sure, verified by GPS that I was doing exactly the speed limit and had been for a while.

I haven't owned a radar detector in 15+ years. Haven't been pulled over, either. Paying attention and staying withing "shooting distance" of the posted speed seems to work pretty well.

Letting ya'll run up ahead as "bear bait" works, too. :D

The last detector I had (remember, it was 15 years ago) gave false alerts ALL the time. Was pretty much worthless, since you never knew if it was a cop or random noise. Are the newer ones any better?

Seems like we both have a winning plan to generally avoid tickets. Your problems could be solved by a dash cam with GPS.

I am SERIOUSLY considering one. Of course, when you are in communist places that make it a crime to film LEOs it won't do much good. I chose not to fight one in Louisville because the judge had a reputation for finding everyone who didn't plead guilty or nolo contendere guilty and fine them as much as $800.

All 50 states allow you to film the police per the federal government.
As far as the judge goes, if you fight the ticket and lose, you have to pay court costs.... that's not uncommon. The price of the ticket is nearly uniform throughout the state.
Everyone blames judicial corruption lol :dunno:

My radar detector is the price of gas...At +$4.00/gal and driving a vehicle that gets about 12 MPH, not only can I not afford the ticket but I can't afford the gas to speed.

In town you will get a lot of noise from door openers and such. On the highway I don't get a lot of false alerts. Most of the ones I do get are the Hoosier Helper trucks.

Even with a detector you have to pay attention.

I've had a Valentine 1 for several years.
    It's been great.

I run it at maximum sensitivity and have learned through the years how to read what it's telling me.

Mine's said to be in line for an upgrade, but when I checked what the upgrade did for me, it was basically to reduce false alarms from stationary roadside radar that reports traffic speed.

This would do nothing to increase my protection, and is a waste of the $200 it would cost me.

As far as driving the speed limit, when they decide to put realistic speed limits on our roads I'll follow them.

What happened was, when we went to the "temporary 55 speed limit" in the early 1970's, the government became quickly addicted to the easy money from speeding tickets on roads with unrealistically low speed limits.

We were PROMISED that as soon as the Arab oil embargo was over, our speed limits would be restored.

Which at the time were 70mph on Interstates, and 65mph on 2 lane highways.

So driving around Indy, the REAL speed limit on I465 should be 70mph not 55mph.

Then when you add in the fact that the original 70mph speed limit on Interstates was set using late 1950's cars, with modern cars it should be at least 80mph.
