Walmart? K-Mart? What were those? Never heard of them in the remember when days.

We had a Sears & Roebuck in the nearest town that sold appliances, tools, motorcycles and guns. Bought my first rifle there, a Win-94 in .30-30. My first gun though came from the LGS that a guy ran out of a converted garage down the road; a .410 bolt gun lost in a robbery at my parents house.
My dad bought a motorcycle there that he rode to work a couple of years, it still sits in my garage like that Win does in my safe.
Mossberg? That was my first "real" gun. I also lost mine in a break-in when I lived in Lafayette back in the early 80's. I've come really close to getting another one at shows more times than I can count but have never have brought myself to do it yet.
This is just like the one I had (model 183D-C):
K-Mart was around when I was a kid in the 60's into the 70's and beyond. We also had Yankee's(Flint, MI), a direct competitor to K-Mart.
SKS' used to live on pallets at the gunstore that was my first LGS of choice. $99 u-pick.
One day, some guy was in the store fondling his loaded 45 (against the wishes and request of the store owner), the dude ended up having a ND and shot a stack of rifles.
He shot through5 boxes and several stocks. The store owner gave him a choice. Buy the five damaged rifles or he was going to call the police. The guy had just left to go get $500 when I arrived at the store.
I always wondered if the guy kept them.
I wish I had bought 5 of them at $99 a piece.
Yes sir, mine looked very much like that.
I once bought an FN-49 for $250, also a Mini-14 for about the same...I bought a 1970 Dodge Charger for $1500, traded it and a turntable and $200 for a '70 Super Bee. My dad bought me a '72 Ranchero GT,351c motor for $1200....ahh times have changed
Lots cooler. Those were the days... although an El Camino was cooler than than a Ranchero.
Lots cooler.
I got one for $69 Chinese made they were advertising them as paratrooper sks. Sad part the one I had could not hit the broadside of a barn from inside the barn. I sold it for $200.Now I'm recalling digging through a crate of SKSes to pick one. $175 for an SKS, expensive! On the other hand these were some rare variant that took AK mags, might be worth it.
I remember dad yelling at my brother for spending $550 on a ‘69 Roadrunner. He wasn’t even 16 yet so that would have been 1976.I once bought an FN-49 for $250, also a Mini-14 for about the same...I bought a 1970 Dodge Charger for $1500, traded it and a turntable and $200 for a '70 Super Bee.
