I was at a get together recently at a friends house. There were many people there whom I had not seen in many years, mostly friends from school. The friend hosting the party and I had maintained our friendship over the years and I knew this person to be of the liberal/progressive view. I assumed (correctly) that most of the people at the get together were of the left leaning persuasion. The conversation was very friendly, mostly reminiscing the "good ol' days", but eventually wandered into politics and social issues. When the topic of prepping came up, I gradually let it be known that I was a "prepper". To my surprise, the attitude from others was curiosity and questions about why I would do that and not criticism and ridicule. After giving a few real world examples of how being prepared just made good sense, the conversation progressed in a very pleasant and enthusiastic manner. I guess the moral here is that even though we live in a society with radical political polarization, there are still people who keep an open mind about subjects and are eager to learn about them before passing judgment. It just gave me a little hope...
