    Question for you you "self-processors."
Once you have field dressed (presumably left the innards in the field but away from your stand/blind?) your deer and taken it home you still have to dispose of skin/bone/skull etc.

What is your disposal method of the unused portion of a game animal?

Ok, maybe I should clarify; I don't own a "back 40" and my hunting grounds are not my own. While I could leave carcasses in the woods there, I consider it poor form to leave my trash on someone else's land and I wouldn't want to be responsible for some coyotes coming in and eating someone's dog or something. (Eating cats is ok. IDC whos they are). I will already be leaving the guts from field dressing which can't be helped and is understood by the landowner.

Double bagged in the trash sounds good assuming its legal?

Anymore, I have a spot along the edge of the property that I own that works out well for carcasses. I just dump it out there and let nature take it's course.

Years past I have gone back out to my hunting grounds put it in out of the way spots (land owner approved). I've bagged and thrown in the trash in the past too.

I also dump it in the way back of the property, I would hate to be the garbage man that has to pick up that bag after a week or so.

I take 'em way back where I hunt.
Cars and coyotes leave a few, I'm just adding a bit more.
The bones get chewed up/strung out such that after a season you really don't find "skeletons". Pelvis and some vert, maybe a femur, all chewed up..........nature works 'em down pretty good.

I usually skin and quarter at my hunting location. The head, skin, and midsection get put back in the woods for the various scavengers. The bones and trimmings left at home after the processing get double bagged and put in the chest freezer until trash day, then off they go.

is it safe to skin/quarter in the heat right after you harvest?

For me, I skin and quarter as soon as I can and then toss the quarters in the cooler with 6 - 2 litre bottles of Kooler Gel. It drops the temp of the meat very quickly and I've never had any issues doing it that way.

    good to know.

I'm still debating on taking to a processor or doing myself.

Takes a while for one to aquire everything you need, grinder, cooler, the skill to do it
