Re: mushrooms in chili, Susan's dad gave us a bunch of chicken of the woods several years ago, and I tried them in a batch of chili and liked it, so I've been putting mushrooms in ever since. I know it sounds weird but it's good!

Just got back from getting my chili fixin's at Kroger. I don't know what's up with their produce bags lately. They no longer have the regular thin plastic "normal" bags. Last week they had these things with handles on them like shopping bags. They'd only hold about 6 apples. Today I thought they had gotten the normal ones again but when I went to pull one off the roll, it was like 3 feet long. I wasn't going to use a 3 foot long bag to put two jalapenos in.

No, not morels. The chicken of the woods that grows on rotten logs. They look like this:



They've got a really firm texture and they freeze well. I've never had any since but I'd like to.
