I am in the slow process of building a hobby CNC machine that will use a standard wood router and have a cutting area of 1' by 2' by about 5" high. I have the design ironed out, purchased the metal structural components, and have the wood for the wooden parts of the structure in the garage. I need to cut out the individual components of both wood and metal, put it together, buy the electronics, and pray that i spent enough time designing that I will not have any surprises in the end…or middle for that matter. It should easily be able to cut material as hard as aluminum or brass. Here are some CAD screen shots of the design.
