laser cut no. Machine cut to high precision yes depending on thickness and how soon you want it.Anyone have any equipment that can laser cut steel with high precision? And that wants to do it for me as a favor?

And what tolerance do you consider high precision?
Well, its gonna be at least .25" and no more than .30" thick. and its a Knife Steel so probably like D2 or S30V or something like that.
So I could give you a blueprint and your machine could cut it out to spec?
Sounds expensive.
Just pretty darn close. I'll have to file and shape the blade anyway. Then send it off for heat treatment and then sharpen it and finish it.
I can machine that thickness. Yes you could give me a blue print. CAD model is better if you have it as we can just load it into the machine and then it writes the program for me.
Price I couldn't do without a lot of details.
will the cuts be made pre or post heat-treat?
would you want me to arrange he treat as well?
Full disclosure I wouldn't be doing it I have a machinest who does all my work for me. he will do it, trust me it's better that way. Hell if you want I could probably arrange you to be there when he cuts it.
Probably wouldn't get to it for a month though.
Cuts would be pre-heat treat. And I want to send it off to a place that does heat treating for knives specifically.
Yeah, I don't have any CAD stuff but I know what I want. I'm gonna work on drawing out the specs this weekend.
I'm not in a hurry yet, and it would depend what it would cost too. I might just shape it myself. I'm trying to make my own fixed blade and don't want to have a ton wrapped up in it.
Ummm... Bigger than you might think. I think 18" overall at the most, maybe. And probably no more than 3" wide. I'm sure its not close to being too big for the machines though. That's fine I/we can do the modeling for the machines. what would the overall max dimensions I am guessing not too big.
you providing the material will cut a lot of the cost if you want I can get a rough round number quote for you.
Where would someone buy knife grade steel???
I posted a thread in the cutting edge section and Grunt Soldier's first post has what I need for sure.

There is also a place called Alpha Knife Suppy or something that has a lot of stuff too. Just not as think and as big as I want.
I think I have already said this once today, but you learn something new on INGO every day.

Yeah, I'd be buying the steel.
Well, it might be 4" wide not sure yet. But yes, long and somewhat skinny.
The stock will probably be .270/.300 thick, 3-4.5" wide and probably 24" long. It might end up being longer, I'm not sure how big I want it yet.
I'm probably going to make a thin wooden model of the profile first.
