my agent told me the cost and availability of parts has an effect on the cost of insurance.

Seems like it should have something to do with how much damage you can do when you hit something too.

when Mom passed Dad called the insurance company to let them know she was gone, wasn't going to be driving anymore. His auto insurance went up. He's 69 years old (70 now) and this is the same company with a local agent he's used since I first started driving.

Explain that one,

he called around and got different quotes and moved all his insurance elsewhere and it was cheaper than he was paying before for the same coverage.
