That's one place I wouldn't explore by myself.The access is illegal for good reasons.
And besides getting lost you also have the risk of findind some shady people downthere.
Also poisonous gas, or floods due to underground rivers.

Not sure what kind of gear, if any, they brought for their adventure.
When I explore underground structures I always bring 2 or 3 flashlights, extra batteries, first aid, food, water and more.
And they are small structures, not hundreds of miles of tunnels.

Above the door there's a sign that reads "Stop, here begins the empire of death."
Should be enough to turn people away.

I boiled the taters and chopped kale together, the drained and fried it some in butter. it was pretty tasty, wife liked it.

The parts open to the public have lights on the walls.
I would still bring my own flashlight.
