I think they do.
a few years ago during the summer a kid walked in front of one just as it was fired. It left black pock marks all over his face. He was lucky it didn't take his head off. Scary moment and it looked worse than it was. He was lucky kid. No permanent damage. Someone had taken a picture of it when the cannon fired and he walked in front of it.
