Our 20 year old humidifier took a crap end of last winter. I have every intention of replacing the entire furnace and connecting duct work but my time is just not mine.
When I fire the wood stove we have a water pot that evaporates and puts some moisture in the air.

    Crap......I need to haul wood.

I need to figure out something to get some humidity in the house this winter.

    Buy a cheap sauce pot.
Bottled water on the stove on low heat. Just enough heat to evaporate the water.

"OR" a steam vaporizer. We get one every year fr the family room. You will wear it out in a season or 2 but the relief from the dry air is worth the effort. You have to run tap water in the vaporizer.

I got one of those good sized humidifiers a couple years ago. It was still running good at the end of last year. It makes a huge difference in comfort.

I bought some juice off Amazon to add to the water that keeps,it from liming up. First one I bought limed up so bad it wasn't working any more.

I pull the little "Boiler" section apart a few times a season and clean it out. Soak the electrode in vinegar. They run good after servicing.
Bottled water with a teaspoon of salt works pretty well.

I have a small humidifier that my daughter bought when she visited a few years ago. It has barely been run but I'm not sure it would be big enough to do much.

Mine pumps water up over a large filter. The fan blows over the filter. Once those water lines lime up, you're done.
