It's been so long since I was 23 that I couldn't remember the part about the placenta. Heck, my nieces are older than 23, (and one of those I'd, um... SHE'S ADOPTED, don't worry) offspring #1 at 19 was a pretty late baby. Offspring #2 at 12 was a really late one.
