:coffee: I've been up for two hours but I'm just now having my first cup of coffee. My wife decided to get up early and go to the store. She called me from the store and told me her van wouldn't start. So, I get up, get dressed, grab a toolbag and head over there. I get in the van, turn the key, and it fires right up. :dunno:

She said it was turning over fine but wouldn't fire. I'm thinking the crank sensor might be going bad.

At least I didn't have to work on it in the parking lot. But now I have to wonder when it's going to happen again. :xmad:

What is a crank sensor? Our truck does that now and again.

It is a magnetic sensor that tells the computer what position the crankshaft is in and if it is turning. If the computer gets no input from the crank sensor, it will not turn on the gas or spark, therefore you could crank it all day and it won't start.

Hey, that does sound like what my truck does. No indication whatsoever of gas or spark, which has been driving me crazy trying to figure out what's wrong.

How hard and how expensive is it to replace?

The one for my wife's van is only about 20 bucks. I had a car a few years ago with the same problem and it was almost $50.

As far as hard it is to replace, it depends on what is in the way. Once you get to it, its usually just one or two bolts and a connector.

What year/make of truck is it?

I don't know which engine you have but it looks like that sensor runs 50 to 70 bucks for your truck. It also looks like the sensor may be different depending on whether its an automatic or manual trans.

I don't know exactly where its located on your truck but trucks usually have a little more room to work. Any good parts store should be able to tell you where its located.
