Also, since 10mm was intended as a better round for the 1911, those velocity specs would be for a 5" Gov't 1911.

Many guys are having no problems getting those numbers from a Glock with <5". No, the brass isn't looking great (it's a GLOCK, ruiner of all pistol brass).

I am curious as to the effects the porting will have on velocity from the 6" barrel.

    This ported Commander as well....

Please post if you get to chrono the effect of porting. The 6" probably has little effect, but the Commander is likely a different story, as porting a shorter barrel is usually more of a pressure bleed.

That would be my take on this. Depending on what and where you read there is a velocity drop with the porting. Underwood gives stats on 5" and 6" barrels. Talk is that porting a 6" drops velocity to the 5" range.

I'd think the barrel is effectively the length to the first port. The second port is far less consequential.

Would be interesting to see this on super slow motion video. I think the effective length would be length to the first port plus some factor of how much pressure isn’t bled off by the ports. I think that factor would be relatively small, but not zero.

Yes, small but not zero. And the 2nd port smaller still, but not zero.

It's analagous to the cylinder gap on a wheelgun, only larger in magnitude.

Ok all you 10mm fans... S&W announced the return of the 610 in a 4” and 6 1/2”.

Who is on the waiting list?..

I figured you might be interested with the recent S&W acquisitions. I’ve been there as well with 6 revolvers added to the safe...5 of them with out the ugly hole in the side

OMG is right... a 4” 610 with a trip to BossHoss is in order. Trigger job, chamfer the cylinder and order a handful of moon clips. Then a quick click for a case of Sig 180 gr. FMJ....
