I know there are a type of cart that had a vacuum system to help create massive downforce by literally sucking the vehicle down to the track. That's what I was wondering if his car had or not. This looks really fun.
What's the sheet metal along the sides for? Controlling airflow?
Interesting I've never heard of that.I know there are a type of cart that had a vacuum system to help create massive downforce by literally sucking the vehicle down to the track. That's what I was wondering if his car had or not.
Yeah a lot of the little mod cars at the solo II nationals used to have one or two leaf blowers attached to the floor pans and with the integrated skirting they were creating huge amounts of down force. So much so that they were exceeding the designed maximum speed of the courses so I believe SCCA outlawed them a couple of years later.Interesting I've never heard of that.
Perfect.
No vacuum all passive. That can is the hemholtz resonatorWow. Not what I was picturing.
What's up with the exhaust? Front exit tire warmer?
And does that have a vacuum of some sort to make it stick?
So it's shaped like a venturi to create a low pressure area?No vacuum all passive. That can is the hemholtz resonator
Here’s the final look:

Is thia yours?
Mercury grand marquis shortened 20”, ranger short side axle, engine set back and to the right, 4.6 2valveIs it all Mustang underneath?
The floor aero is to create a passive low pressure area to make down force. The hemholtz is supposed to be tuned to the engine at a certain distance etc to kill resonance. This was part of a free thrown away gm catback that we used to build the exhaust. So it's shaped like a venturi to create a low pressure area?
I was talking about the floor. I've actually seen the resonator setup like that a couple of times before. The floor aero is to create a passive low pressure area to make down force. The hemholtz is supposed to be tuned to the engine at a certain distance etc to kill resonance. This was part of a free thrown away gm catback that we used to build the exhaust.
Aero induced downforce was huge in Indy/open wheel for a long time. It generates a significant amount of downforce. The cars had side skirts along the outer body to seal to the track. USAc/Cart outlawed it.I was talking about the floor. I've actually seen the resonator setup like that a couple of times before.
The floor aero is ingenious.
