Half the population is below average intelligence, and I suspect the average has declined over the past several decades.

Perhaps it is more like 90 percent of the population today is below the average population intelligence of the era of our Nation's founding fathers.

I think some of the appearance of diminished intelligence has to do with single minded, vector based learning habits.

You have ONE thing you like and with the internet you can focus all your energy in one direction and learn everything there is to know about a flipping game, for instance.

Hand them an IKEA table to put together and they struggle using hand tools.
Using a pair of pliers AND a screwdriver at the same time is well beyond the skill level of many youngsters.

Our grandfathers had to be Jacks Of All Trades just to get by. Carpenter, both rough in and finish, blacksmith, wheelwright, mechanic, welder, fisher, hunter, doctor, engineer (problem solver), rancher, farmer, butcher, veterinarian, weatherman, etc.

Modern highly specialized educational tendencies defeat this natural ability in many folks.
They begin to look a little less intelligent because they have such single vectored learning traits.
