And his chain musta been dull as hell. If one of my chains hit me in the head like that, there would be blood everywhere.

If you watch closely it looked to me it stopped short of his head by about an inch

This - the ceiling stopped the impact to his face. If not, it would have been a devastating injury, even with the chain brake on. A good friend of my father was clearing a fence row and had the saw kick back on him. Chain brake engaged, but the force of the kick back spilt his face in two. He survived and the doctors did an amazing job with facial reconstruction - that was 30 years ago, I'm not sure anyone would be able to see the scars today. That taught me lesson at an early age to keep body parts I prefer to keep in factory condition out of the potential path of the bar when cutting wood.

My head would have still been split open from when I fell from all the crap that slid down my leg.

Well, using the wrong tool for the job will do that to you.

On the other hand neither knowing the proper use of the tool, nor observing proper safety precautions will do that to you.

My wife and I were out for a little drive north of town this morning and snapped this pic while we howled.... two bushes trimmed into deer.... one on each side of their porch so she made the pic a meme.....
