Edit: He left out that multiple candidates defended Soleimani who had been killing Americans for ~20 years now.

I think felons should be able to vote... even from their cells.

No! Please! And certainly not in local elections where in many communities inmates would outnumber the citizens that live in the area. Remember the Florida election debacle? Now add 100K inmates and 100K work release types that may just vote as a block. What if Trumps criminal justice reform was also done to get the inmate vote in states allowing it? Politicians have proven they cannot be trusted, if they could pander to inmates they will. That is a sizable highly concentrated voting block in most states. Please, no...

I think within reason, given they are incarcerated, they should be excluded from voting on things that affect their localities. I also believe that the length of sentence, and severity of their crime, should also be considered.
However voting on mayors, state/federal reps, senators, and president? Absolutely. Not every law is just, and we have a long history of imprisoning people due to unjust laws. Other than the optics of "the thugs in jail are voting," I can see no reason to deny them.

How about only able to vote in statewide and national elections AND only absentee from their home district, not have the prison be their legal residence?

I have been thinking about it and I know hindsight will be a good 20/20, but I don't see how the democrats win. I don't mean this in a mean way, but trying to think objectively I see them having all sorts of issues.

Bernies base is fired up. He can pull a strong base. This is good. But being a socialist will hurt him with moderate democrats and fiscally responsible independents. Even republicans who don't like Trump won't vote for Bernie OR will back Trump as the lesser of two (2) evils. And if Bernie doesn't win the nomination his base will feel cheated again and stay home.

Buttigieg seems able to run a good campaign but I don't see some hardcore southerner democrats or religious black folks turning out for a gay guy. Sorry, but there is some bigotry in this country. Sure he'll take California but so what? EVERY democrat will take California and the big liberal states.

Warren has some credibility issues. While even I agree with her that the large megabanks need to be put on a leash that is about the only thing I agree with her on. This stance will cause alarm and allow easy fearmongering from Trump and the right. I don't see her doing it.

Biden did seem credible, but not so much anymore. I think he is a lot weaker than he seemed to be, and now that the smoke is starting to clear he will have a harder and harder time winning.

Bloomberg will be seen trying to buy the election. Plus, his rabid antigun stance will hurt him badly among southern, bluesteel democrats. They still exist. They like some of the democratic parties old support for workers and social programs but they shoot as much as their conservative counterparts. I don't see them turning out for him.

No one else is getting the numbers to stay in and do well. There could be a big surprise but I don't see it.

If the democrats put up an idiot again people will go with the devil they know - Trump. They may not like him but they know who he is. Those who do like him will turn out in droves.

I just don't see the path to the White House for the democrats this November. Of course, if one of them does win I'll be looking back at my own ignorance and wondering why I didn't see the obvious.

    Regards,

    Doug

How on earth did we go from "democratic primary" to "felons voting?" Oh well,....

For my part I do think former felons should be allowed to vote. Once they have served their time and are considered free, so be it. If they have paid their price to society then all rights should be fully restored.

I'd have to think about parole... That could be, complicated.

Felons in prison? My kneejerk reaction is against it. This is a population that has one overriding issue - to get out. Even for many gun owners on this forum they may vote for someone not friendly to guns but who has a great deal of alignment on other issues. Free people have a variety of issues that are important to them. Caged people have one issue - to get out of their cage. That one, overriding desire, would heavily skew them for voting for certain candidates that would not be rational.

    Just a thought.

Parole is part if their debt, when it is served honorably total restoration of rights.

It got started, because Democrats think it will help them, I think.

    Two words: Terry McAuliff

Why do you think he felt it was so important to restore voting rights to the 200K convicts in his system before the election that he attempted (illegally) to have a blanket hearing for them all when state law required individual hearings? I doubt it was because they were expected to vote independently

Once you enter those walls you are no longer enjoying the freedoms we on this side of those same walls enjoy. That is why the damned walls are there people. WTF....Over.

It spins my head around when people even consider this. Hold them accountable for the things they have done. If time/PAROL is served then restore the rights and privilege's. Screw the pooch again and all bets are off. Period.
