Hard to believe it was so long ago - it really doesn’t seem that way! I was in middle school and remember it very well.

We knew people in the buildings. Everyone we knew survived but it was a long day. Anger. Fear. Hope. Sadness. Not an emotion was missed on that day.

The tragedy of 9/11 brought out the best of America in 9/12 though. The ensuing period of patriotism and appreciation was awe inspiring.

Unfortunately, as the years have past, much of the nation has forgotten what this country holds for its citizens and the limitless sacrifices made by those that defend it within and outside its borders.

    America!

Sadly we have slipped well under the levels set following this terrible day.

I was aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73). We were leaving Norfolk for training in the Virginia Capes operating area which is south of Norfolk. It takes a few hours for a carrier to get out of Norfolk. While we were heading out we watched the planes hit on CNN on satellite. When we reached the sea buoy instead of heading right and going to our OPAREA we made a hard left and dropped the peddle. This was very early in our training cycle and we had no planes, aircrew, airwing personnel or weapons aboard. When the sun came up on Sep. 12 we two fighter squadrons, all of their maintenance and ordnance personnel, weapons, etc. and we had F-14 Tomcats flying combat air patrol over New York City. I think we ended up staying up there about a month.

Wow, very interesting BA. I had been out of the service for years by that point. Was at work doing my thing and someone was doing training in our training room with a group of people. When the news hit, the guy doing the training put the news on the screen in the training room and left it running all day. People would wander in and out all day getting updates. It was surreal. I remember being absolutely stunned. Was very proud of the patriotism displayed afterwards for a short while. Too bad I don't think we'll ever get back to that point without a huge change.

or another attack.. The thought makes me sad.

I walked into a truckstop that morning to see the first plane hit the tower on the tv's for sale. Stood there long enough to watch the second one hit. Listened to the rest of it on the radio. Freight still had to go.

I still remember how clear the sky was without all the jet trails in it.

Freshman in high school. Thought it was the start of WW3 and the finance center at Ft. Ben would be a target. We were on high alert because the school was less than a mile away.

    Morning folks! :coffee:

Got this upper together tonight. It will have to share a lower with the 300BK pistol until I'm satisfied and pin and weld the flash hider.

Should be another 2-3 months before I get the can for it.

Not sure about the Eotech reticle (my first). I'm used to the ring being a nice smooth line instead of a dot matrix. It will take some getting used to.

I’ve come to love the Eotech ring and run those on several weapons for social situations. The bottom of the ring is dead on at 7 yards and then I use the dot at 25 yards or longer. The fuzziness of the ring makes me less likely to focus too much attention to it.

In the Army. We knew immediately after the 2nd plane hit that we were under attack and had already started the process of deploying.
It was unreal. Still remember that day so clearly.

My flags are out. I wish we could get this country to love this country again like they did after 9/11
