    Sorry for the minor rant:

Over the last couple of weeks, I've been helping my niece chose her first handgun. We've gone gun shopping to show her what is typically available and at what price points it falls. Then we went shooting to see what felt good for her. She got to try a Glock 19, CZ 75B, CZ P07 and a Bersa .380. After shooting a bunch of ammo, she decided that she loved the P07 and hated the Bersa .380. The Bersa is my sister's gun and my sister is not a shooter. She came along on the shoot to get some practice and could not even remember how to load the gun. When she shot, it was all over the place with a high percentage of shots being off paper at 5 yards. But, she kept telling my niece to 'just buy a Bersa like mine'. So, I get a text from my niece yesterday saying that after talking it over with her mom, she decided that she wants a Bersa. WTF! She shot that gun and hated it. She would not shoot more than a mag through it because she hated it. She put at least 50 rounds through the P07 since she liked it and kept going back to it. And yet, after all of that, my sister talks her into getting a Bersa like hers. I don't think it's the cost, as she's been saving since January and has a budget of under $500.

I just don't understand what my sister is thinking other than that she has a tendency to be frugal. To the extreme at times. I wonder if it's a case of thinking why solve a problem for $500 when you can solve it for $300, but the problem is that if you get a gun you don't like to shoot, then you won't practice. If you don't practice, then it's not of much use should you actually need it and if you buy a $300 gun that's of little use when needed, you have not solved the problem at all.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

That would frustrate me also. You are not alone. I would think she would listen to someone knowledgeable about the subject instead of someone inexperienced.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Definitely frustrating, sorry to hear that. I was shocked the other day when I went to pick up my niece's P-01 from my Dad. She can't have the gun for a while due to "legal issues" and gave it to my Dad to keep, who wanted me to hold it since I own a safe and he doesn't. Anyway, he asked what I had in the gun (a little north of $1k) and then asks me what I sold it to my niece for ($650). Then he goes on a little rant that I shouldn't have sold her such an expensive gun when she would have been just as well off with a $350 gun... :n00b:

Of course, I was the one that took my niece to the range several times to let her shoot a wide variety of guns before she made her decision, so she'd have a good idea of what she wanted. She fell in love with the P-01 since the first time she shot it and she shot it very well. She begged me to let her buy it and I finally relented when I picked up the 75 compact from BA. But my Dad thinks she only needed a $350 gun...

88, maybe your sister knows the Bersa is a Legion killer. :dunno:

It is very difficult when someone I know wants to carry or purchase an inexpensive gun, but we must remember we all spend are money differently. I am sick, and must keep that in mind!:lmfao:
