Very possibly but the camps were run by the SS which were hated and feared by many, if not most, Germans. I think it is possible many were unaware of the real details inside. Many Germans were pretty busy trying to stay alive themselves from the Nazis.

How many Americans were fully aware at the time of the details of what was actually going on in Vietnam?

No, the VAST majority of Germans bought in to Nazi ideology. Completely. They may not have been as fanatical as those who joined the SS, but most Germans liked, at least at first, what the Nazis did for Germany.

Yes, at first. Hitler was very popular among Americans too at first. There are even some articles in National Geographic about him that were not exactly critical. That was only at first. Later on he was hated and by then the people were no longer in any position to even say what they felt for fear of being turned in and killed by the regime he formed.

We are just one SCOTUS appointment away from fixing this problem.

Then the libs will have to go to their sanctuary cities to kill their babies.

That sounds like blind faith. R v W is going nowhere anytime soon. At most it’s 7-2 upheld. 6-3 if Trump nominates an ideologue next.

You may have read that, but that simply isn't true. Most German were completely aware of what was going on. The may not have seen it directly, but they knew well enough.

That isn't what I was told by a Jew who escaped who is a friend of a few Jews who managed to survive the holocaust. Their story is that the Nazis went to significant lengths to keep Fritz on the street satisfied that they were merely being deported and were being treated humanely right down to putting them on passenger cars until they were in remote locations across the border where they were transferred to freight cars.

I'd be interested, in how exactly would they know? If they were Jewish, in Nazi controlled Europe, they were either in hiding, or in a camp. Thats not to say they don't believe what they told you, but on the face of it, the idea that a very large part of German populace didn't know, is somewhat naive. I'm saying this as a person who has spoken, at length with Germans from that era, concerning this exact subject. Nazi Germany has drawn my interest, both personally and scholastically since I was a kid. If you'd really like me to go in-depth concerning why, I'll lay it out for you.

You might already know that the babies killed are very frequently not "liberal."

Well, yes. But you have to consider what they were coming from. They were coming from Weimar-era hyperinflation. They were coming from atrociously punitive reparations from WW1. THey were coming from international shame.

Along comes a skilled orator to convince them that they have nothing to be ashamed of, that they can be proud, and-- more importantly-- that the economy could and would improve. And improve it did.

So yes, the vast majority of Germans "bought into" the idea of Socialism and nationalizing major businesses and of economic growth and of nationalism.

There's simply no evidence that most Germans heartily approved of Nazism beyond that. Many were simply afraid to resist the Nazis and went along. You forget the violence and anarchy that began with the ASD and the failed Putsch in 1923. From that time until the day Hitler was appointed Chancellor by Hindenburg in 1933, it was essentially a 10 year civil war/Nazi insurgency with guerrilla tactics proved ultimately successful.

As with many insurgencies, they were successful not because they had won over a majority of people to their thinking. Rather, a 51% majority would have consisted more of 16% fanatical devotees and 35% people who were scared to oppose them and trying to figure out how to get along without getting killed.

Struggles like these are won on the margins. It is the passionate extremist that wins not because he achieves a majority, but because his minority is too aggressive and too powerful for the passive majority to oppose.

Study major events of cultural change and you'll see the same pattern.

I think a lot of this rings true. We’re seeing some related behaviors in our own culture war on both the far left and far right. Difference is, the passive majority is quite willing to reject the far right racial nationalism. It seems many are quite eager to go along with the far left though. The politically correct have positioned themselves to command mobs of virtue-signalers to mass shame people into compliance, in a way that wasn’t possible in 1930s. We have social media. It fuels the mob of otherwise passive people to join in the unearned virtue of the mob.

In our own time, I wish more moderate left people would stop seeing Nazis in every shadow and see that the most danger in the shaddows is the Orwellian leftist future that’s forming. And I hope the moderate right people don’t look to the extreme right as allies in the culture war. The enemy of your enemy is not necessarily your friend.

I don't think it too far fetched that SCOTUS would find no federal authority to regulate abortion and return purview to the states. People seem unaware that abortion was legal in some form (though almost never unrestricted) in 20 states prior to Roe v Wade

I think it would be well to worry about the imposition, whether statutory or de facto, of a social credit system like the ChiComs are busy implementing. A system where your every utterance, whether electronic or FTF, is parsed and sifted and either adds or detracts from your social score - and a high social score (representing agreement with the government) and only a high social score opens the door to employment and education and travel and resources

I hope you don't think the FANGs would hesitate a moment to sell all of us down the river for the 'right' government if/when it achieves power

Is Big Tech Merging With Big Brother? Kinda Looks Like It

A friend of mine, who runs a large television production company in the car-mad city of Los Angeles, recently noticed that his intern, an aspiring filmmaker from the People’s Republic of China, was walking to work.

When he offered to arrange a swifter mode of transportation, she declined. When he asked why, she explained that she “needed the steps” on her Fitbit to sign in to her social media accounts. If she fell below the right number of steps, it would lower her health and fitness rating, which is part of her social rating, which is monitored by the government. A low social rating could prevent her from working or traveling abroad.

China’s social rating system, which was announced by the ruling Communist Party in 2014, will soon be a fact of life for many more Chinese.

By 2020, if the Party’s plan holds, every footstep, keystroke, like, dislike, social media contact, and posting tracked by the state will affect one’s social rating.
Personal “creditworthiness” or “trustworthiness” points will be used to reward and punish individuals and companies by granting or denying them access to public services like health care, travel, and employment, according to a plan released last year by the municipal government of Beijing. High-scoring individuals will find themselves in a “green channel,” where they can more easily access social opportunities, while those who take actions that are disapproved of by the state will be “unable to move a step.”

But Dems have said repeatedly, essentially, that if any Republican was elected anywhere for anything above local dog-catcher, that all women would be forced into the back-alleys... this cannot be so. I don't see how both could be true! :)

The RCP Job Approval aggregate has been pretty steady for the last few weeks (about 55/41 disapproval/approval). I expect a SOTU bump for Trump, but when the gov't shuts down again (or Trump declares an emergency), all bets are off.

    Imagine that.
Raising tax on the rich.... they leave. Then you get less taxes.

Might be a pretty big bump. CBS News poll had the favorability for the SOTU address very high. I’m sure all the lst leaning news outlets are going to get to work on deconstructing the address to counter the bump.

So, people were upset with Trump (before he was Pres.) saying "lock her up", but now they are saying the same thing (though about Pres. Trump)
