What was Johnson supposed to do? Republicans need to be VERY united with a tight majority. The House and Senate and WH must agree. It’s not a unilateral solution. Curious how you get an all or nothing solution with one edge of the triangle.
    What did Republicans get?

Or. Maybe that's better phrased as what did Republicans get for their constituents? Compromise means everyone gives up something and in return they get something.

Not as much as I had hoped. The border headline would have been better. I am not defending the deal, per se, but rather saying that the dreams of an all-or-nothing approach seem shortsighted.

In an effort to appease Republicans, both sides agreed to rescind more than $6 billion in unspent pandemic aid, plus more than $20 billion for IRS enforcement. The clawback of tax enforcement funding was already agreed to under the debt limit deal. But it’s being frontloaded to this year, rather than two tranches of $10 billion, and Republican leaders say they will seek to trim more during other funding negotiations.

Johnson was also successful at hacking away at the side agreement negotiated alongside the debt limit deal, by ensuring emergency funding stays at the current level of $12.5 billion, rather than $23 billion. Money to offset changes to mandatory programs will also stay steady, at $15 billion, instead of the $25 billion agreed to under the debt accord.

Well I figured he got voted in because he would appease the democrats and rinos.
As long as leftist Republicans control the majority no change in the way the government is going.

    McCarthy with Bible verses.

    I could tolerate cutting this…

Government grants are chock-full of BS like that, pretty much no matter who is in charge, just more crony and less pervy when Rs are in the drivers seat. It wouldn't shock me if groups like that kick back to the DNC for the funding privilege - virtueless circle

What's wrong with no deal? :dunno:

The way Democrats have operated for at least the past 15 years, they demand big budgets and then if Republicans try to negotiate just 2% less it's like :runaway: those evil republicans are trying to kill grandmothers!

If you're evil just for something simple as not wanting to spend as much as last year you might as well go all out. You're going to be called evil no matter what. Let the government shut down. Don't flinch. Don't blink. Go ahead democrats, shut the ****er down. Or, if you want to keep things open, this is all you get.

The deficit is $2T. That's unsustainable. Printing money isn't going to solve it. Shut the ****er down. They could get away with saying debt and deficits don't matter when deficits were only 1% of GDP. Now it's ****ing 12%. And debt is financed at a way higher interest rate. **** these ********ers. Republicans and Democrats. How is Johnson's deal all that much better than Pelosi's? What the **** are we spending all that money on? No more.

Keep shutting down the deal, blame it on democrats, and get all the donor money to run non-stop TV ads explaining why government employees are effectively laid off due to democrat actions.

Hammer it and hammer it hard, and don't budge an inch.

He has all the leverage in the world to accomplish something like this. But he won't, because he's a snake.

You’ll get blitzed with ads saying how at a time of global conflict your government is shutdown because of MAGA republicans while the media echoes their talking points. The President and Schumer stand there willing to move on status quo. You have to hold a 1 seat majority through the whole thing, with at least 8 of your members being self centered and willing to blow it up for media time.

How does this not go worse than when Ted Cruz led the Obamacare shutdown that blew up in the GOPs faces?

so. GOP gets blitzed with adds anyway. Everyone but GOP voters already believe GOP is made up of fascists, racists, and rich people who hate grandmothers, apple pie, and "our democracy". Who gives a **** about image at this point.

TWO TRILLION ****ING DOLLARS! That's the deficit now. **** image.

Plus that is only the starting point. They are all too willing to throw more money away on :poop: all the time.

Best option now for significant change is for the entire government to collapse under the weight of the debt. Then we can start over or let another country have everything.

Keep knocking them down until a person with backbone is voted in. Or leave it vacant so nothing gets passed that would be fine with me.

However, with Johnson siding with the Democrats his job is secure even if every Republican voted him out.

Is there enough freedom caucus members to stop all legislation?

I heard a Chip Roy interview this past week and he implied that he would support tossing him too, unless….

It wouldn't end up how you think.

It would accomplish not only saving us from that bill, but showing the voters the GOP actually has a spine, and motivate them to actually show up on election day. That's the number 1 thing the GOP needs to resolve. Giving voters a reason to vote for them.

If you just get a democrat with an (R) sticker, what's the point in voting? Why do you think democrats are normally cheering for unusually high turnout while the GOP thinks that's bad for them? It's because of **** like this.

And fear mongering people into supporting the GOP remaining this spineless aimless dumpster fire is exactly what leads to democrat victories.

We’ve only seen this done once and it blew up in the Rs face. There’s no guarantee it saves us from the bill, only getting dragged the entire shutdown before going back to it.

Rs have a get out the vote problem, a conspiracy wing problem, and distrust due to grievance politics driving voter turnout problems. It’s not simply spending bills.

None of this works without leverage. R+ Gaetz majority is litttle leverage.
