OK here's the story I live in the county not rural county but never the less the county. About 3 weeks ago I went out back and shot off about 14 rounds of .380 into a target backed by a mound of sand. About 30 min later a State trooper is cruising up and down my road about 5 mph. So no stop no issues the end. Today I go out and shoot 21 rounds of 45 acp and proceed to mow my grass. About 30 min into mowing a State trooper is cruising up and down my road about 5 mph with a County officer right behind him. He goes up and down the street a few times before he pulls in my neighbors driveway. He ask her if someone was shooting and I can tell she's covering for me and giving a bit of a run around. So he pulls out disappears for a bit and then shows up in my drive way. I get off my mower and walk up to the officer and ask him if I can help him. He says someone reported a firearm being discharged in the area. I said yes it was me. He then grills me and tells me it's illegal and a liability to fire a gun in the area. I tell him it's county and I am well within my legal rights. I hear the County officer confirm over the radio and confirm that it is County. He stalls and say a couple other snide remarks and turns and leaves.
So going forward what should I do when I want to shoot my gun in my yard. What should I keep in mind they could bust my balls on. Do I have the right to shoot whatever and when ever "common sense does apply" as long as I don't violate the noise ordinance? I'm not out firing my AR with BETA mag I just shoot a few rounds here or there if I get a new gun or what not.
