I do not get it? 7 aircraft stopped at an airbase again(they even show the images from 2 months ago,and it is not the first time they have been there,I would wager it has been happening for decades).Russian bombers capable of carrying nukes detected near Finland
Hate to break it to you,but the MIG31's and su-27's can both carry nuclear weapons as well. Why are these 7 aircraft somehow more alarming? 4 long range bombers, and 3 medium range bombers that seem to stop there on occasion is reason for alarm...why?
Imagine the panic they could cause if they mentioned the 20+ TU-22(K,P,and M3 variants) bombers stationed there for over 30 years(M3 is a supersonic bomber, capable of carrying nukes) or the naval air wing(mostly anti sub aircraft both fixed wing and rotor)?
Units stationed at the airfield since the 1990s include:
- 924 MRAP (924th Naval Reconnaissance Air Regiment), operating Tupolev Tu-22M aircraft
- 967 ODRAP (967th Long Range Air Reconnaissance Regiment), operating Tupolev Tu-22M aircraft
- 88 OMAPIB (88th Separate Fighter Bomber Regiment), operating Mikoyan MiG-27 aircraft
- OGA (Arctic Control Group), maintaining standby facilities for Tupolev Tu-95 bomber aircraft
- 458th IAP, Mikoyan MiG-31BM
