Just goes to show that there are limits. Some things cannot be prepped for. You can't create a BOB with enough stuff to last you a year and if your house, (with its preps inside) gets bombed out you're screwed. Not an excuse not to prep, but a dose of reality. Better mentally prep yourselves for the possibility that you could have to leave with nothing more than a suitcase (or less).

Exactly. The most destructive path aside from doing nothing is to build all your plans around one pet scenario and make no accommodation for circumstances different from that happening. Generally, I try to plan around as many reasonable-case scenarios as possible regardless of the nature of the eventuality under consideration for planning. In other words, I don't settle for having 'Plan B', but try to extend deeper into the alphabet.

    Thanks for the responses.

Yes, I think it would be very difficult to prep for something like that. You could have a good amount of the right gear, but it would never be enough.
And to face the challenge that the destination country won't have you, or is simply unable to absorb the sheer numbers.

And for prepping, this made me think of the decision when "bug-in" turns into "bug-out", and the distance that may be involved.

After many years of theorizing on the best way to prep I've concluded there's no better way than to be healthy and in semi-decent shape. Regardless of which scenario hits it's hard to argue you'd fare better as a fatbody with no endurance who's prone to getting sick. When you see those folks on TV the majority are moving on foot with very little food & water. That takes a really quick toll and for far too many of us, it could prove fatal.

Best prep we can make.... Get good at walking.

Great advice. Everyone needs to steel their determination to get to the other side...first. Then you think about stuff.

    Could be anywhere
From IN that's going to be a really long walk...and we'd have to get through worse places before we had a chance of getting anywhere better. Finding food and water on the journey would be problematic at best. If it really got that bad you'd just be delivering whatever you had to whoever was going to take it.

Before WWII Polish Jews were told to leave Germany and Poland refused to let them back in...it created a crisis that was a pretty good preview for the rest of the Holocaust. Of course, to make it work they had to be disarmed first.
