Question about 1911 Full Length Guide Rods

maybe because one is a Colt and the other an Ed Brown?

have you swapped rods in both and seen any difference?

I should have been more detailed and said I could not believe the difference in muzzle climb between the two pistols. I soon installed a FLGR in in the Ed Brown.

I went to a standard 'short' guide and plug on my "Loaded" full-sized Springer. No decrease in accuracy or function that I can see in the 1,500 or so rounds since. Not a regular competitor these days, so that little bit of extra weight up-front is immaterial. Personally, on a 1911 A-1 that isn't strictly for the range or competition I like being able to rack the slide one-handed if it ever became necessary. But then again I'm an old fart and got indoctrinated on how Ol' Slabsides oughtta be run way before a lot of the currently fashionable stuff was around. My stainless Champion "Loaded" never had a bushing or a FL guide and has always run perfectly without 'em.

Not a complete Luddite on the subject though. I wouldn't give up my beavertails, good sights and ambi thumb safeties for anything, and they weren't around back the either.

Basically, it doesn't matter. If you switch for anything do it for convenience because you won't get any more functionality out of any particular type. For me, I prefer either one piece or GI but I leave in place whatever guide rod it came with.
