    If you haven't changed it recently, go change it.

    1" filters typically last about a month
    Yes there is wiggle room for homes with well sealed ducts and do.not have animals.

    Likewise if you have pets you may need to change it sooner.

    4" filters typically last 3 maybe 4 months.
    Some will say you only need to change them every 6 months. I disagree.

    At the very least pull your filter out and hold it to a light. If you can see light you have some life left. If not, replace!

    Or run a dirty or no filter and I can recommend a guy to replace your system.

    I filtered my return air ducts as well as my normal furnace filter. The return air are lower flow velocity and trap a crap ton of stuff. I change them quarterly and my furnace twice a year. I use cheap filters in the returns and a quality filter in the furnace.
