Anyone else think this is just sick?

Not only is it blasphemy toward Christians, but it simply sends a message that is, at best, idiotic.

Painter Michael D'Antuono To Unveil Controversial New Work in NYC's Union Square on Obama's 100th Day in Office
    Can You Handle 'The Truth'?

NEW YORK, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael D'Antuono may raise more questions than answers when he unveils his highly controversial new painting, "The Truth" on the South Plaza of NYC's Union Square on the 100th day of Barack Obama's presidency. The artist's politically-, religiously- and socially-charged statement on our nation's current political climate and deep partisan divide has been privately raising eyebrows (and voices) since its creation.

I am speechless, and afraid. Men who have believed and spoken of themselves in the manner in the past have not lived long afterwards. We reap what we sow...the Lord is not mocked, and He is well able to take care of Himself.

Obama's gonna be pissed! He doesn't look anything like Ala in that painting! :):

Really, it saddens me to know people actually have this perception of him. It's disgraceful and shameful.

I was raised Jewish, and that offends *me*. It does have two correct points, though:
    1) he will be "crucified" by his behavior in the office of the President, and
    2) (sadly) this will likely make him a martyr to his zobambies.

Oh, BTW, I'm offended less by his portrayal as Christ and more by the fact that he's been depicted wearing an American flag pin on his left lapel. We all know that Obama denounced the wearing of that pin.

I do find the religious depiction offensive as well, though less so personally than do you, my friends who happen to be actively Christian.

    Blessings,
    Bill

This makes me sick to my stomach that some one, ANY ONE, has the balls to compare our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to a radical muslim socialist.

This will be accepted while a cartoon of "Alah" with a bomb on his head is considered Jihad / Lawsuit material?

You've got to be kidding me....

    New International Bible said:
    Revelation 13

And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. 2The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. 3One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. 4Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?" 5The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. 6He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.[b]
9He who has an ear, let him hear.
10If anyone is to go into captivity,
    into captivity he will go.
If anyone is to be killed[c] with the sword,
with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints

    Sound familiar?

    New International Bible said:
    Revelation (continued)
11Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon. 12He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men. 14Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.

So if Mr. Sotro is indeed, the "First beast", I'd hate to see who the second one is.

    Take note:

A while back, some friends and I were discussing this very passage of Biblical text. Make no mistake about it, I'm not a Scholar. What the author of Revelations may have seen was indeed, a gun in his visions. The best way to describe such modern firearms?

    A sword.

I think you guys are misinterpreting it. Here is what Reuters wrote about it. Try to read it all before commenting back.

"The 30" x 54" acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing
much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind
him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is
he revealing or concealing and is he being crucified or glorified?

D'Antuono insists that this piece is a mirror; reflecting the personal
opinions and emotions of the viewer; that "The Truth" like beauty is in the
eyes of the beholder. D'Antuono expects that individual interpretations will
vary as widely as they do in the political arena. The work will be seen by
one viewer at a time behind a voting booth-inspired public installation.

Until now, Mr. D'Antuono has chosen to paint purely non-political subject
matter, opting instead for iconic celebrity portraits and hard-luck romantic
narratives. However, now the artist feels the need to make a statement.
"Aided by the media, politics has taken a nasty turn in the last decade and I
firmly believe that this is one of the underlying causes of our nation's
    current problems," says D'Antuono."

    Quite disgusting, but...

First of all, I am with all the many people here who have already voiced their opinion of being disgusted by the painting. Comparing anyone's self to Christ is blasphemous and horrible. Coupling Old Glory into the painting just smears another level onto to print that makes things even worse, although offense to God leads the way at #1.

    But...

I'm wondering what the artist's true motivation for the painting was? Does he truly feel that BHO is the 3rd coming? Or is he mocking the many people who actually do feel this way?

Even if it is a mockery, it's still distasteful.

I would like to hear any further news that clears these questions up about the artist, his political leanings and such.

    Nope, got it right.

    Either, both, interpretations are offensive

Meant to be offensive, in other words.

Until now, Mr. D'Antuono has chosen to paint purely non-political subject
matter, opting instead for iconic celebrity portraits and hard-luck romantic
narratives. However, now the artist feels the need to make a statement.

    Don't quit your day job.

And this IS ONE of those "nasty turns." Hypocrisy thrown in to boot.

    Is he a false Christ?

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.-Matthew 24:24

People everywhere refer to him as the "Messiah".

    Does he oppose God?

And one of passages that sums up the world we live in and are about to live in taken from Rev. 13

And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

6And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

For those of us that have a discerning spirit, we know the season. A man who proclaims Christ on the surface yet denies him upon further explaination. To the people who fixate on "American Idol" and their next orgasm he appears to be "Christian", they will never see the nuance in "many paths to god". To those of us who believe, we know he doesn't believe, infact he blasphemes. Many "Anti-christs" have come before, Stalin, Hitler, etc. Are we living in the final era? I don't know, but when logically approached none of the prophecies has not been broken yet.

The funny thing about prophecy is how we sometimes only know in hindsight when one is fulfilled. Rev. 13:5 says the Anti-Christ will have power for 42 months. Yet here we stand possibly 3 months into the 42 and we still don't know...
